The immigration consultants charge a very nominal fee as compared to the price of your career and they stand by you throughout the immigration process. Some of the good immigration services offer post landing services as well to their clients.

Few things that you should look for in a good Immigration Service are:

  • The immigration consultant Services should be registered and lawfully authorized to represent a client. ICCRC (Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council) is the regulatory body under which the Immigration services are registered.

The Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) status can be acquired through two pathways predominately, through the Federal Express Entry Program and through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). PR status to the candidate is allotted for a period of five years, it is a family visa allotted to the candidate.

Express Entry Program:

Attaining a Permanent Residency (PR) status in Canada has become relatively easier than before after the implementation of the Express Entry Program in January 2015. It is an online mode of applying for a Canadian PR status in which the evaluation is done on a point base method. The points are calculated on the following basis:

  • Age – If you are between the age of 25 to 35 then you are eligible for maximum points.
  • Language Proficiency – The language proficiency of the Candidate is tested through IELTS and CLB examination. In IELTS scoring a high band allots you with more points. It will work in your advantage if minimum of 6 band is maintained in each category of reading, speaking and writing.
  • Education – Higher education allots more points to a candidate. However, your degree should be from a recognized university so that your education status can be calculated at par with the Canadian examination board.
  • Work Experience – Canada is always on the lookout for skilled candidates thus having work experience especially in a field of high demand at a particular province can work positively in your advantage.
  • Adaptability – If there is some sibling of the candidate staying in Canada then the candidate is eligible for higher points.

Express Entry Draws are taken out after every fortnight in which the minimum eligibility criteria is decided by the IRCC, a governing body of Canada which decides the migration rules and regulations. After the candidate has secured minimum points in the comprehensive Ranking system (CRS) he / she becomes fit to apply and is sent an ITA (Invitation to Apply) which should be answered within the 90 days timeframe.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Another way of applying for a PR status in Canada is through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). PNP Permanent Residency (PR) status is allotted as per the guideline set by each province. For every province there is a different eligibility criteria and the province for which the eligibility is met PR status for that particular province is acquired by the candidate. It is advisable that after the PNP is attained the candidate stays in that province for a minimum period of 2 years before settling or moving to a new location.  Further, it should be noted that  If you have education and work experience in a profession which is on high demand than in a particular province than it can work in your favour as the government of Canada is always keen on allotting PR status to skilled workers Under PNP or Provincial Nominees program, the applicants are regularly chosen based on their age, work abilities and language proficiency.

Quebec skilled workers Program (QSWP)

Under this program, the government of Canada invites applications for the Quebec region.  The process of applying in Quebec is a two way process – first the applications are sent to the Quebec region then the approval is sought for PR status. On approval, the Applicant will attain the PR status for Quebec province where, he will have to stay for a minimum period of two years before settling in any other province in Canada.
