Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held the latest express draw on August 20, to issue the invitation to the candidates who have applied for Canada PR Visa through Express Entry Program.
In the latest express draw which was held within eight days of the previous draw, set the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score cutoff at 457 points. This is the minimum CRS score requirement since May 1st express draw. The lower time interval between two consecutive express draw gives less time to replenish the express pool with skilled candidates, thus, in turn, lowering the CRS score cutoff.

Express Entry is the main immigration program of Canada to invite skilled immigrants for Canada permanent residency. It uses a ranking system – Comprehensive Ranking System that ranks the profile of the applicants according to CRS points awarded to them based on the factors like age, education, skilled work experience and language proficiency in English or French and among other major criteria. Highest ranked profiles have then issued the Invitation to Apply (ITA) to apply for Canada PR Visa to the IRCC.
Express Entry manages the profiles of the candidates who have applied under Canada’s three skilled economic immigration programs – Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). For a candidate to enter the express pool they must be eligible to apply any one of the above mentioned skilled immigration programs.
IRCC used their tie-break rule in the express draw, with the time stamp used was March 24, 2019, at 15:32:42 UTC. This means the candidates who have applied before the used time stamp and have minimum 457 CRS points, were issued the ITA in the August 20th express draw.
This latest draw invited a total 3,600 express entry candidates for Canada PR Visa. IRCC has been issuing the same number of ITAs since the express draw of July 10th. With this expanded express draws, IRCC will easily break the record of the previous year, 2018, for the most number of invitations issued in a single year – 89,800 invitations.
For the candidates who are not able to clear the minimum CRS requirement, there are ways to increase their CRS score. One of the main ways is to get a provincial nomination.

Every PNP (Provincial Nomination Program) has a stream that is in-line with the Federal Government’s Express Entry Program, thus allowing the provinces to search for the skilled candidate in the express pool.
For an express entry candidate to land a provincial nomination certificate, it awards them with 600 CRS points. With CRS score cutoff for an express draw being around 450 to 460 points, these many points make sure that the candidate gets the ITA to apply for Canada PR Visa to the IRCC.
