Manitoba pnp latest news rules 2017

Manitoba conducted its latest Express Entry draw on the 21st of October, 2017. This is the 35th draw made by the province this year. The total number of ITAs issued to skilled workers already in Manitoba stand at 351 while the number of ITAs issued to overseas skilled workers were at 44. So, in total, the number of invitations to apply issued in this draw is nearly 400. While normally there are several professions like nurses and university professors which are given priority due to an acute shortage of skilled workers in this category in the local provincial market.

The official statement issued by the Manitoba immigration authorities says that there can be many reasons for this decision including, pending applications from these categories, low labour market demands and barriers for active participation/work in these domains. The professions overlooked in this particular draw are:

  • Registered Nurses
  • Secondary and Elementary School Teachers
  • Vocational and College Instructors
  • University Professors
  • General and Specialist Physicians

Another significant development relating to the rules and regulations governing the entry of children into Canada is that the rules have been changed to allow entry of older dependent children into the country along with their parents. A person will qualify as a dependent if:

  • they’re under 22 years old, and
  • they don’t have a spouse or common-law partner.

Another significant development is the elucidation of children over the age of 22 years. They will qualify for dependent status if they:

  • have depended on their parents for financial support since before the age of 22, and
  • are unable to financially support themselves because of a mental or physical condition.

Please note that both the conditions must be met in order to qualify for immigration as a dependent.
