The PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) normally publishes the draw dates for the year in advance, but this year the draws had to be postponed due to disruptions in coronavirus service.
The first draw on June 10 invited nine candidates for Express Entry and Work Impact. Then, on June 18, 10 invitations were issued for candidates of the same categories.
A total of 91 invitations were issued during the June 23 round. It was the first time that Business Impact candidates have been invited since the pandemic hit Canadian businesses. With 20 invitations to immigrant entrepreneurs, it was the biggest round of the year for this category.
The same draw also invited 71 candidates to work and Express Entry.
PEI Express Entry
The Express Entry category of the PEI PNP is an “enhanced” stream which means that it complies with the Canadian government’s Express Entry system.
Express Entry handles applications from three economy class immigration categories: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.
Eligible applicants obtain a score in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) for human capital factors such as age, work experience, education, and language proficiency in English and French.
Express Entry applicants who obtain a provincial nomination are awarded an additional 600 points for their CRS score and are effectively guaranteed an Invitation To Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
To be considered for a provincial Prince Edward Island nomination, Express Entry applicants must create an Expression of Interest Profile (EOI) with the PEI PNP.
EOI profiles receive points based on the province’s unique point grid. The highest-rated candidates are then invited to apply via monthly draws.
The Prince Edward Island PNP did not provide a breakdown of the number of Express Entry and Work Impact applicants who were invited, nor the minimum EOI score required for each category.
PEI Labour Impact
Applicants in the Work Impact category were also invited to the three draws in June.
This immigration category is intended for foreign nationals who have a valid job offer in Prince Edward Island and who benefit from the support of their employer. It is divided into three parts: Skilled Worker, Critical Worker, and international graduate.
Applicants in this category must also submit an EOI profile in order to be considered for a provincial appointment through the Work Impact category.
PEI Business Impact
The PEI PNP Issued invitations to 20 candidates with an EOI profile in the Business Impact: Work Permit Stream. Those invited were required to have a minimum EOI score of 117 points.
The Work Permit Stream is for entrepreneurs who wish to own and operate a business in Prince Edward Island.
