Quebec Increased Their Sponsorship, Application and Sponsorship Fee for 2020

Quebec increased their sponsorship, application and sponsorship fee

In order to reflect the changes in the province’s average Consumer Price Index, Quebec has announced an increment in financial requirements and application fees for the upcoming year 2020.

From January 1, fees for application processing, settlement funds and financial capacity amounts for a sponsor will increase.

The change in the Consumer Price Index in the province of Quebec was 1.72%. These new rates will affect the following scales:

  • Financial capacity of Quebec residents wishing to undertake family reunification within the group sponsorship program
  • Financial requirements for foreign nationals wishing to study in Quebec and their accompanying family members
  • Financial resources needed to assess financial self-sufficiency of QSWP (Quebec Skilled Worker Program) registered candidates, self-employed workers, Quebec Experience Program and entrepreneurs in Stream One and Two.

For a permanent resident of Quebec or citizen to sponsor the application of a family member for PR in Quebec, they are required to show that they have reached a specified gross income over a year. The requirement varies with the number of family members. Following table illustrates the annual income of sponsor based on the number of family members:

Size of Family Unit 2019 Basic Annual Income Required (In-CAD) 2020 Basic Annual Income Required (In-CAD)
1 $23,855 $24,296
2 $32,241 $32,796
3 $39,806 $40,491
4 $45,782 $46,569
5 $50,953 $51,829
More than 5, for each additional person, add $5,171 $5,260

In addition to these funds, sponsors will also require to have an income to satisfy the need of people they are sponsoring to live in Quebec.

Principal applicants must add the figures below that match their situation to relevant figures in the table above. The sum will determine how much income is required annually to qualify for sponsorship

2020 income required of the sponsor to satisfy basic needs of sponsored person and his or her family members

Number of persons 18 years of age or over Number of persons under 18 years Gross annual income required of the sponsor

2 $13,328

Gross Annual Income required increases by $4,444 for each additional person less than 18 years of age

Number of persons 18 years of age or over Number of persons under 18 years Gross annual income required of the sponsor
1 $17,770
1 1 $23,876
1 2 $26,960

Gross Annual income required increases by $3,082 for each additional person less than 18 years of age

Number of persons 18 years of age or over Number of persons under 18 years Gross annual income required of the sponsor
2 $26,060

2 2 $31,515

Gross annual income required increases by $2,313 for each additional person less than 18 years of age and by $8,285 for each additional person 18 years of age or over

Province of Quebec also required candidates (Sponsors) to have a certain amount of funds available for three months following the arrival of sponsored family members. To know the changes in settlement funds required from January 1, refer to the following table:

One Adult (In-CAD) Two Adults (In-CAD)

Two Children (Under 18) $4,919 $5,750
Three Children (Under 18) $5,481 $6,173

For application processing fees under permanent selection from Quebec, the principal applicant needs to pay CAD $812 and an additional CAD $174 for each additional family member that is included in the application.
