The Ministry of Immigration, Francization and Integration of Quebec (MIFI) has released details of the second draw in 2020, which took place six months after the first. Details of the June 18 invitation round in Quebec have been released.
On June 18, Quebec invited seven candidates to apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ). These candidates were either with the exception of the ceiling that was in place when they first applied to the Regular Skilled Worker Program, or they resided in Quebec with a study or work permit on June 16, 2019, while approximately 16,000 requests to the Regular Skilled Worker Program have been canceled. with the introduction of Bill 9.
The Government of Quebec had previously declared in August 2019 that rounds of invitations for these candidates were to take place until January 16, 2020. However, this draw for seven people still included candidates affected by Bill 9.
To be invited, candidates must have filed an Expression of Interest (EOI) with MIFI before December 17, 2019. They must also be either a temporary resident of Quebec when applying or hold a work or study permit in the province at the time.
In order to immigrate to Quebec under the Skilled Worker Program, applicants must first submit an expression of interest via Arrima. The MIFI will then examine the profile bank and issue invitations to those who meet specific criteria according to the needs of the Quebec job market.
Basics of Arrima Portal
Arrima was introduced in 2018 to manage the candidate pool for the Regular Skilled Worker Program after the program was transferred from a paper-based application approach on a first-come, first-served basis to an expression of interest system.
The Quebec EOI system manages the CSQ candidate bank, which is necessary to apply for permanent residence in the province through the Regular Skilled Worker Program.
Candidates express their interest by creating a profile at Arrima, which is then placed in the candidate pool and classified according to a score or other criteria.
The Quebec Department of Immigration issues invitations to apply for a CSQ based on a candidate’s score or other factors such as labor needs in the regions of the province.
