Latest Ontario Tech Draw invites 1,773 Express Entry Candidates with CRS score as low as 435

Latest Ontario Draw

Province of Ontario held their latest Tech draw on August 1 that issued a total 1,773 invitations to the express entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination, with work experience in one of the six tech occupations and with the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 435 points.

This was the second time Ontario held the tech draw since its introduction in early July and a total 3,396 Notification of Interest (NOIs) has been issued so far to the express entry candidates.

Ontario’s tech draw allows the province to search for the skilled candidates in the federal express pool and invite them for provincial nomination. For an express entry candidate to get a provincial certificate, it awards them with 600 CRS points. These many points effectively guarantee the candidate to get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) to apply for Canada PR Visa to the Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Federal Government’s Express Entry program is a point-based program that manages the profiles of the skilled candidates registered under Canada’s three economic immigration programs – Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Having a job offer is not mandatory to be entering under the express entry program.

For to be able to apply for provincial nomination under Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), candidates are required to submit a separate Expression of Interest (EOI) profile to OINP.

Candidates who are having work experience in IT sector with low CRS score and are not able to get an ITA through express entry program, Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) provides a better alternative for Canada PR visa. The latest Express draw has set the CRS cut-off at 459 points, but OINP has invited the candidate with CRS score as low as 435 points, which is also three points lower than the lowest CRS score of this year 2019 – 438 points.

Six tech occupations are as follows:

  • Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
  • Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
  • Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
  • Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
  • Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
  • Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)

These tech draws are conducted through OINP’s Human Capital Priorities Stream. This stream is one of the three streams that are managed by OINP and allows the province to select the skilled immigrants from the express entry program.
