How Can You Benefit as a French Speaker?

When creating your Express Entry profile, you must demonstrate proficiency in one of Canada’s two official languages: English or French. It’s important to select your strongest language as your first official language to maximize your score. Strong French language skills can help you earn up to 50 additional CRS points, even if French is your second language.

If you achieve NCLC level 7 or higher in all four French abilities, you can receive extra points based on your English score:

  • 25 points if your English score is CLB 4 or lower, or if you didn’t take an English test
  • 50 points if you scored CLB 5 or higher in English

You can estimate your score using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) tool, which calculates points for language skills and other criteria.

Additionally, Canada holds category-based Express Entry draws, and French language proficiency remains one of the priority categories for 2025 to support economic and demographic goals.
