Eligibility Criteria for French-Language Proficiency Applicants?

The French-Language Proficiency category provides a consequential and direct path through Express Entry to apply for Canada PR. This selection stream is designed to boost Francophone immigration outside of Quebec.

  • Express Entry Eligibility: You must first be eligible for one of the three core Express Entry programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), or the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).
  • French Language Score: You must have French-language test results (TEF Canada or TCF Canada) showing a minimum score of NCLC 7 in all four abilities: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  • CRS Score: While there is no specific, fixed required minimum CRS score to enter the draw pool, having NCLC 7 automatically grants up to 50 additional CRS points for bilingualism. This significant boost allows candidates to successfully receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) even in draws where the cut-off is lower than in general rounds.

This targeted approach underscores Canada's strategic effort to meet its Francophone immigration targets and support the vitality of French-speaking minority communities across the country.

Meeting these requirements is crucial, as successful applicants will be placed in a dedicated pool that is frequently targeted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for category-based selections, often featuring highly competitive CRS scores.
