Understand About The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is one of the three main immigration programs managed under Canada’s Express Entry system. It is specifically designed for skilled workers who have already gained work experience in Canada and wish to become permanent residents.

The CEC recognizes the contributions of temporary foreign workers and international graduates who have successfully integrated into the Canadian labour market. Because these individuals are already familiar with Canada’s work culture and lifestyle, they are often seen as ideal candidates for permanent residency.

To qualify under the Canadian Experience Class, applicants must:

  • Have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada within the last three years before applying.
  • Meet the required language proficiency levels in English or French (CLB 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs, CLB 5 for NOC B jobs).
  • Plan to live outside the province of Quebec (as Quebec has its own immigration system).

Unlike other programs, the CEC does not require proof of settlement funds if the applicant is already working in Canada. This makes it one of the most efficient and straightforward pathways to Canadian permanent residency for those with Canadian work experience.
