The Express Entry draw is a selection process conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to invite skilled foreign workers to apply for permanent residency (PR) in Canada. It is one of the fastest and most efficient pathways for economic immigration.
To participate, eligible candidates must first create an Express Entry profile online. Each profile is evaluated using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This points-based system ranks candidates based on factors such as age, level of education, skilled work experience, English or French language proficiency, adaptability, and whether they have a valid job offer or provincial nomination.
Every few weeks, IRCC conducts Express Entry draws, where a minimum CRS cut-off score is announced. Candidates with CRS scores equal to or higher than the cut-off receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian PR.
The draws can be general, targeting all eligible candidates, or category-based, focusing on specific programs such as the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), or certain occupations and language skills.
After receiving an ITA, candidates have 60 days to submit a complete PR application, including supporting documents. IRCC then reviews and processes the application, and successful applicants are granted permanent resident status.
The Express Entry system ensures transparency, efficiency, and fair selection, giving priority to individuals who can make significant economic contributions to Canada.
