The Government of Yukon has officially released an update to its Nominee Program, outlining how applications will be accepted and prioritized in the upcoming intake cycle.

For 2026, the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) has been allocated 282 nomination spaces and will follow a revised, employer-led selection approach. The update highlights Yukon’s continued focus on addressing local labour shortages while supporting long-term settlement in the territory.

Following nomination announcements from British Columbia and Saskatchewan, Yukon has now become the third Canadian jurisdiction to confirm its immigration nomination plans for the year.

Yukon Confirms Fair, Employer-Led Immigration

According to the Minister of Economic Development, Jen Gehmair

“Our government is committed to supporting the business community in upholding a nominee program to address staffing shortages. We are also committed to reviewing the Yukon’s immigration processes to ensure they are fair, transparent and continue to support local businesses and communities while ensuring we support those who have already chosen the Yukon as their home.”

Yukon Nominee Program 2026 Intake Timeline and Priority Streams

Under the revised structure, individual candidates can no longer apply directly. Instead, Yukon employers must submit an online Expression of Interest (EOI) on behalf of foreign workers they wish to nominate. Applications will proceed only if an employer is invited to apply under Yukon Immigration.

Limited Intake Periods

Yukon will accept EOIs during two fixed intake windows per year:

  • January 19 to January 30
  • July 6 to July 17

Submissions outside these windows will not be accepted, making early preparation essential.

Priority Occupations and Candidate Profiles

With limited nominations available, Yukon will prioritize applications that best support territorial needs, including:

  • Healthcare and regulated occupations
  • Workers employed in rural or remote Yukon communities
  • Candidates with Yukon work experience
  • Graduated from Yukon University
  • French-speaking or bilingual candidates
  • Individuals already living and working in Yukon

Points-Based Ranking System

Employer EOIs will be scored and ranked based on economic impact, retention potential, and alignment with Yukon’s settlement goals. Only the highest-scoring EOIs will receive an invitation to submit a full nomination application.

Temporary Measure Letter Holders

Applicants who received a Temporary Measure Letter of Support in 2024 or 2025 are exempt from the EOI process. Yukon will contact eligible candidates directly with further instructions.

What This Means for Applicants

Due to the 282-nomination cap, competition will be high. Applicants must secure:

  • A valid, full-time, year-round job offer
  • Strong employer support
  • Skills aligned with Yukon’s labour shortages

The Yukon 2026 update shifts the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) toward quality over quantity, prioritizing workers who are most likely to settle permanently and contribute to Yukon’s economy. For applicants, success will depend on employer coordination, local experience, and strategic timing.
