What does it mean to have a UK innovator Visa?

Innovator visa is one of the visa categories under UK’s immigration programs for the experienced businesspeople that are looking to start their own business in the UK. An immigrant can apply for this visa if they:

How to apply for UK Visa 2019 from India

  • Want to set up or run a business in the UK – for which they need to have their business or business idea endorsed by an approved body
  • Are they are from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland
  • Are able to meet all the eligibility criteria for the innovator visa

Minimum funds requirement is of minimum £50,000 which must be shown as investment funds in order to set up the new business. In case the business is already established and is endorsed in an earlier visa, immigrants do not need to provide with investment funds.

  • To do work outside their established business
  • To work as a doctor or dentist in training
  • Cannot work as a professional sportsperson
  • To get public funds

 

What are the eligibility criteria to apply for UK innovator visa?

For immigrants to be able to apply for UK innovator visa, they are required to clear the eligibility criteria that are set by the UK government. The first condition is to get their business idea assessed by an approved body. On the successful assessment of the business idea meaning that the business idea is found viable, the applicant is provided with an endorsement letter. Other major requirements are as follows:

  • The applicant needs to meet the minimum English language proficiency requirement:
  • Need to be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • The applicant will be needed to prove that they will be able to support themselves financially while their stay in the UK. For this applicant needs to show minimum £945 in a bank account for 90 consecutive days before applying for the visa.

 

To prove their language proficiency in English, applicants can do the same in the following manners:

  • By passing an approved English language test with minimum Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level B2 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
  • Can have an educational qualification for which medium of teaching was the English language, which is recognized by UK NARIC that is equivalent to UK’s educational system whether it is equal to UK’s bachelor degree, master’s degree or Ph.D.

 

What is the Fees requirement and processing time for the Innovator visa?

For an ideal application, the earliest an applicant can apply for the visa is 3 months before their travel. The decision on their visa application can be expected within 3 weeks. Taking about the fees that need to pay to apply for innovator visa, it mainly depends on the location of the applicant from where they are applying. There is no limit on how many times the applicant can apply for visa extensions. The applicant will be able to apply for settlement once they have stayed in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
