The Canadian government understands the value of family reunification and thus, offers Super Visa Canada for parents and grandparents whose children or grandchildren are living in Canada as permanent residents or a citizen. A Super Visa is a multiple-entry and allows holders to stay in Canada for up to five years per entry into the country. Not just this, Super Visa holders can also request to extend their stay in Canada by up to 2 years.

How is the Super Visa different from the Canada Visitor Visa?

The Canada Super Visa is a type of Visitor Visa, but it is only given to the grandparents and parents of PR holders and Canadian citizens. The only difference is the duration allowed to stay in Canada. With a Visitor Visa, you can be in Canada for 6 months and you have to extend the for prolonged stay. But with a Super Visa, you can stay in Canada for 5 years maximum at a time without a visa extension.

Eligibility Requirements for a Super Visa Canada

It is essential to fulfill the Super Visa Canada requirements to avoid delays in your visa. Also, you must provide the correct documents and details to avoid rejection of your visa application. 

Here are the eligibility requirements you must meet for the Super Visa in a timely -

  • You must be the parent or grandparent of a citizen of Canada or a PR holder.
  • You must have signed a letter from your child or grandchild who is inviting you to Canada, which includes -
    • A promise to provide financial support for the duration of your stay in Canada.
    • A list and number of members in the household of this person.
    • A copy of this person’s citizenship of Canada or permanent residency document.
  • You must have proof of private medical insurance from an insurance company in Canada or outside Canada that has been approved by the Minister of IRCC.
  • The medical insurance must -
    • Be paid in full amount or installments with a deposit (quotes will not be accepted).
    • Be Valid for a minimum of 1 year from the date you enter Canadian borders.
    • Cover your health care, hospital visits, and repatriation.
    • Provide at least $100,000 in emergency coverage.

Eligibility Requirements for a Super Visa Canada

One thing you must remember is that this health insurance must be valid for each entry to Canada. You must have proof of paid insurance and show it to the border services officer (if needed).

Apart from this, keep these things in mind while applying for the Super Visa -

  • Apply for a Canada Super Visa from outside Canada
  • Have the visa printed outside the country
  • Must be allowed to enter Canada
  • Get a medical exam
  • Do not include dependents in this application.

Requirements of Financial Support

The child or grandchild who is inviting you to Canada on a Super Visa must show that their household meets the minimum required income. Here are the documents to show as proof of funds -

  • Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year.
  • Employment Insurance Benefit statements.
  • Employment letter including salary, job title, job description, and date of hire.
  • Pay stubs.
  • Bank statements.

Processing Time of Super Visa Canada

Generally, processing time for a Super Visa takes about 49 days. The time starts the day the immigration authorities receive your application and ends when they make their final decision.

You will be asked to give fingerprints and photos (biometrics) with your application. Also, the processing time does not include -

  • The time it takes to send an application between a visa application center and our office
