This Visa allows its holder to remain in country on permanent basis with full work rights.

Skilled Independent Australia visa subclass 189 replaced both the offshore Skilled Independent Subclass 175 visa and the onshore Subclass 88 visas in 2012-2013.

What are the eligibility criteria to move to Australia as a skilled immigrant?

For be eligible to apply under Australia skilled independent visa candidate’s needs to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Skillselect. For this process, candidate can be residing in or outside Australia.

 

There are requirements/eligibility criteria that applicants needs to fulfill and they are as follows:

  • Nominate an occupation that matches candidate’s skills and qualification and is listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
  • Candidate needs to be younger than 45 years of age
  • Candidate’s skills needs to be assessed by relevant assessing authority as suitable for your nominated occupation
  • Need to competent in English Language.
  • Must score at least 65 points in the Point test.
  • Candidate must be able to meet the health and character requirements.

Once the candidate is invited to apply for the 189 visa subclass, they have 60 days to submit their online application. It is very important for the candidate’s to submit Expression of Interest (EOI), through Skillselect program. EOI must contain the information regarding positive skills evaluation from the respective assessing body/institution, and also the details that are related to the IELTS test score.

What is the process to apply for Australia visa subclass 189?

Eligible candidate can apply for the Skilled Independent Visa 189 based on 3 stage application process:

Stage 1:

The very first stage for the Australian immigration process involves getting the credentials assessed by a relevant government body. Skill-set of the candidate and their credential enables the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) to judge if the candidate’s skills are of the required level that will allow them to practice the chosen occupation in Australia.

Stage 2:

Once the candidates get the positive assessment from the concerned institution, they need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Skillselect. For this candidate can either be residing in Australia or outside the country.

Stage 3:

Once the candidate is able to get the Invitation to Apply (ITA), they can continue to DIBP stage of application, where candidate can submit final and complete application to be approved by DIBP so the 189 visa Australia can be granted.

Under this process, priority processing is applied. Priority processing determines the order in which the department considers the applications irrespective of the time the application has been submitted.

Candidate who is able to get their hands on the visa subclass 189, they are given 5 year multiple entry visa to live and work in Australia. Candidates only need to live in country for minimum 2 years of the 5 years to have the visa re-issued for further 5 years. Alternatively, if the candidate spends 4 consecutive years in country then they are eligible to apply for Australian citizenship.
