Federal Skilled Trades Program

FSTP is an immigration pathway for skilled workers who want to become a Canadain PR based on their qualifications in a skilled trade.

What are the minimum requirements for FSTP?

Following are the minimum requirements to apply for Canada PR visa through FSTP:

  • Minimum CLB level 5 is required for speaking and listening; and CLB level 4 for reading and writing.
  • Must have 2 years of minimum work experience in the last 5 years in a skilled occupation
  • Meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification, except for needing a certificate of qualification
  • Have a full-time job offer in this skilled trade for a period of at least one year with a maximum of two Canadian employers OR hold a qualification certificate in a skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.

Now, under the required work experience, following are the NOC groups that are eligible under FSTP:

  • Major Group 72, industrial, electrical and construction trades
  • Major Group 73, maintenance and equipment operation trades
  • Major Group 82, supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture, and related production
  • Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utility supervisors and central control operators
  • Minor Group 632, chefs and cooks
  • Minor Group 633, butchers and bakers

What is the process to apply for a Canada PR Visa through FSTP?
