Overview of PEI PNP

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) was established in 2001 with the goal of bringing and keeping in the province more immigrants who could help with the province's economic and labour market demands as well as promote economic growth. The PEI PNP draws immigrants who are likely to settle on the island and have the education, training, and skills needed. The province has been able to welcome more immigrants since the PNP was implemented.

In Canada, PEI has the highest rate of immigration per resident. Prior to the pandemic, its immigration rate was 1.6%, compared to the national average of 0.9%. As a percentage of its total population, the province has Canada's largest newcomer inflow. PEI PNP has one enhanced category:

  • PEI PNP Express Entry category.

It also has two base categories:

  1. Labour Impact and,
  2. Business Impact categories.

A category Is called "enhanced" when it is compatible with the federal Express Entry system. Canada manages applications for permanent residence through its primary economic class immigration programs using the Express Entry system.

A point total based on the Comprehensive Ranking System will be assigned to you if you are in the Express Entry pool (CRS). In regular Express Entry drawings, Canada invites the top applicants to submit applications for permanent residency. You receive an additional 600 CRS points after being nominated through a strengthened provincial scheme, such as the PEI PNP Express Entry. You will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency in the following draw thanks to this increase. Through your Express Entry profile, you are also nominated.

The majority of PNP immigration streams are base streams. They are therefore not compatible with the Express Entry system, according to this. Those who are nominated by their province must submit an application directly to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
