Canada is one of the most preferred immigration destinations in the world today. A number of people, especially from India apply for Canada PR every year through the popular Express Entry program. However, not all are successful in getting Canada PR through that route. Such people need not lose hope as they can still immigrate to Canada by way of a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Moving to Canada becomes comparatively easy via PNP instead of Express Entry program, for the simple reason that most of the PNPs have relaxed eligibility criteria allowing skilled people to seek permanent residence (PR) in the province concerned.
Check if you are eligible to get a nomination from a Canadian province
It is important to note that almost all Canadian provinces have an Express Entry linked workstream and there are 2 different ways you can apply for Canada PR via a PNP:
STEPS | 1st Method | 2nd Method |
Contact a province or territory and request nomination under their Express Entry stream | Make an Express Entry profile and indicate in your profile, which provinces and territories you are interested in
If the province accepts your request for a nomination, you can make an Express Entry profile and show that you have been nominated | Once you receive a “notification of interest” from a province or territory in your account, you can contact them directly
You will receive your nomination electronically through your account, which you will need to accept | Apply to their Express Entry stream
In case they select you for a nomination, they will send the nomination electronically through your account. You just have to accept it |
As you can tell, in both the cases, you will need to create an Express Entry profile. So, it’s best to create your Express Entry profile as soon as you can. It anyway offers you the benefit of access into the Express Entry pool with a large number of Canadian employers looking for skilled people to recruit.
All the Canadian provinces have their own PNP, with the exception of Quebec which has its own program on similar lines, known as – Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP).
