Process of getting the Letter of Acceptance to Study in Canada

With approximately 500,000 international students, Canada is known for providing high-quality education at a reasonable tuition rate, as well as degrees that are worldwide recognized. With an outstanding quality of life, abundant post-study work, and immigration options, Canada stands out as a favorite study destination for Indian students.

But before applying for a permit to study in Canada or to obtain a Certificat d'acceptation du Quebec (CAQ), you must have the letter of acceptance (also known as an offer letter or offer of admission) from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada. Your study visa application may be denied by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) in case of the absence of an acceptance letter.

If you are submitting your application online, don’t forget to attach a scanned copy of the acceptance letter. However, in the case of a paper-based application, you will be required to provide an original copy of the acceptance letter. IRCC requires exact information about the applicant, the institution that issued the letter of acceptance, and the program into which the applicant has been admitted when submitting the letter of acceptance.

Getting a conditional letter of acceptance
If you are required to finish prerequisite courses to be admitted to a certain program, a school/institution may issue you a conditional letter of acceptance for that program if you have already completed the prerequisites. For example, you could be admitted to a Bachelor's Degree program if you first complete an English as a second language (ESL) course. When completion of the prerequisite is required for admission to the program, the immigration officer will issue a study visa for the duration of the prerequisite course only. You must seek to extend your study permit for the new course once you have completed the prerequisite.
