How IELTS Scores are Calculated?

IELTS is the abbreviation of the International English Language Testing System, comprising four modules- Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The band score increments with 0.5 and is calculated on a scale of 0 to 9. There are a total of 40 questions in the Listening module and the maximum mark for each correct answer is one and the minimum is zero, which means no negative marking. The case is no different for the Reading module but scoring a 40/40 is a little difficult here. So, 37-38 is considered a high score for this module. Then comes the Writing module which includes two tasks. The second task has more marks weightage than the first one and is accessed differently. The average achieved in both tasks based on lexical resource, coherence, accuracy, and response will make up the band score for this module. Lastly, there is a Speaking module that is calculated based on fluency, pronunciation, grammar range, and lexical resource. All the modules have a significant role to play in making up that final and required IELTS score. So, you should pay equal attention to all of them and work on your weaknesses.
