Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted a new draw. This was the first-ever education category-based Express Entry draw.
If you’ve been invited to this latest Express Entry draw, you will have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence (PR) to the IRCC. Your Invitation to Apply (ITA) will no longer be valid if this timeframe passes.
The latest Express Entry draw was held on May 01, 2025. ITAs were issued to 1,000 candidates across a category-based draw for Education professionals. Invited candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 479 to be eligible for an invitation.
Draw No: 344
Type of Draw: Education occupations
If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles. If you were not invited in the latest Express Entry draw, your profile will remain active in the Express Entry pool for 12 months from the submission date.
On 27 February 2025, IRCC added a new category under the Express Entry for education occupations, which the department also identified as a priority category for invitations to apply (ITA) for PR for 2025. To be eligible, you must:
Have accumulated, within the past 3 years, at least 6 months of full-time, continuous work experience (or an equal amount of part-time experience) in a single occupation listed in the table below. This experience can be in Canada or abroad.
Meet all of the requirements in the instructions for that Express Entry round.
Job Title | NOC Code | TEER Level |
Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants | 43100 | 3 |
Instructors of persons with disabilities | 42203 | 2 |
Early childhood educators and assistants | 42202 | 2 |
Elementary school and kindergarten teachers | 41221 | 1 |
Secondary school teachers | 41220 | 1 |
Express Entry draws in 2025 thus far have focused primarily on Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. The remainder of the draws have been dedicated equally to French-language proficiency and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates:
Draw Type | No. of Draws |
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) | 7 |
French-Language Proficiency | 3 |
Canadian Experience Class (CEC) | 3 |
Education | 1 |
This was the first-ever draw for Education occupations. IRCC establishes Express Entry categories to align with Canada’s economic and demographic goals. Most occupation-based categories are chosen based on current labour market needs, ensuring the system helps industries experiencing worker shortages. These in-demand occupations in Canada are usually in sectors where local talent is insufficient, making immigration vital to filling critical workforce gaps across the country.
