Starting January 30, 2024, the Person Test of English (PTE) Core will be eligible for all Canada Immigration programs - except the Student Direct Stream (SDS). Candidates wanting to apply under the SDS must take the PTE Academic.
Candidates applying through Express Entry managed programs, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), or any other pathway that requires a language test for immigration purposes - including Canadian Citizenship, can now take the PTE Core.
Immigrate to Canada in 2024
PTE Core is a computer-based English test that assesses the candidate’s general Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening skills. The PTE Core is divided into three parts:
PTE Core results are typically displayed within 48 hours.
The PTE Core has replaced the PTE Essentials test, which was the approved language proficiency test for Canada Immigration in 2023. With the addition of the PTE Core, there are now five language tests accepted for Canada Immigration purposes. These include:

For French
Candidates taking the PTE Core when immigrating to Canada will be asked for a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level to demonstrate their language skills in either English or French.

PTE Core results are valid for 2 years. If your PTE Core results expire while waiting for approval on your Canada Visa application, you will not be considered.
PTE is by far the quickest, and most practical way to demonstrate proof of language proficiency in English. Even though the test is relatively young (launched in 2009) - it has grown in acceptance and popularity on a global scale.
At present, over 70+ countries accept the PTE.
