North Bay has also released its priority sectors and occupations list under the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP). North Bay is a city in Northern Ontario. The region covered by the North Bay RCIP includes the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts, along with the Town of Latchford.

The RCIP is a pathway to apply for Canada PR for workers with job offers from designated employers in participating rural communities in Canada. So far, the Timmins, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, North Okanagan-Shuswap and Brandon have announced their priority sectors and occupations.

Why are priority sectors and occupations important for the RCIP?

The RCIP is an employer-driven immigration pathway, meaning foreign workers must secure a job offer to be eligible to apply for Canada PR. This job offer must come from a designated employer - an employer approved by an economic development organization within a participating RCIP community.

Only employers operating within the identified priority sectors are eligible to receive this designation. Once designated, these employers can extend job offers to foreign workers, allowing those workers to apply for PR under the RCIP. In addition, the NOC code linked to the job offer must be approved under the specific community’s RCIP (such as North Bay) for the applicant to be eligible.

At the time of writing, the following communities have announced their priority sectors:

  • Timmins
  • Brandon
  • Sault Ste. Marie
  • Thunder Bay
  • North Okanagan-Shuswap

There are 14 total communities participating in the RCIP, with more expected to release their list of priority sectors soon.

In addition to a qualifying job offer from a designated employer, foreign nationals must meet other RCIP requirements. These include having at least one year of relevant work experience or qualifying as an international graduate, meeting language and education criteria, and showing proof of sufficient funds to support their settlement.
