Today, the Honourable Immigration Minister of Canada, Sean Fraser announced that Canada has reached historic immigration levels in 2022 – surpassing the previous record from 2021.

This record showcases the largest number of immigrants ever welcomed in a year in Canadian history. The last time Canada issued such a high number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to immigrants was in 1913.

This record-breaking feat is all thanks to IRCC’s quick processing of some 5.2 million applications for permanent residence, temporary residence, and citizenship in 2022. That’s almost twice the number of applications that were processed in 2021.

Sean Fraser quoted, “Today marks an important milestone for Canada, setting a new record for newcomers welcomed in a single year. It is a testament to the strength and resilience of our country and its people. Newcomers play an essential role in filling labour shortages, bringing new perspectives and talents to our communities, and enriching our society as a whole.”

He added, “I am excited to see what the future holds and look forward to another historic year in 2023 as we continue to welcome newcomers.”

With the new Immigration Level Plans, Canada bets big on immigration in 2023 as well, IRCC has added new resources, embraced new technology, streamlined processing, and brought more processes online. These changes will play a pivotal role in improving Canada Immigration’s position in the future. As Canada continues to focus on addressing the acute labour shortages and building a strong economy, one thing remains certain –

“Immigration is the key part of the solution.”
